Our range of solid hardwood decking is grown in New Zealand and milled and processed onsite at our Clevedon mill, so the boards you lay were shaped by the same people who selected the log.

Why hardwood instead of pine
Most decks in New Zealand are built from treated pine, because it is cheap and it is everywhere. It is also a soft timber. Pine dents under furniture, splinters as it weathers, and depends on chemical treatment to survive outdoors at all.
Hardwood works differently. Eucalyptus is naturally dense and naturally durable, so it resists wear, holds a screw, and stands up to the weather without relying on chemical treatment to do the work. It stays flatter and firmer underfoot, and it ages into a deck that still looks like a feature of the house rather than a job on the list.

Every board in this range is grown in New Zealand and milled at our own sawmill in Clevedon. It has not been shipped in from a tropical forest on the other side of the world, and its provenance is not something you have to take on trust.
We have been shaping timber since 1874 and we sell direct from the mill. If you want to see where your deck comes from, you are welcome to come and stand on it.
Eucalyptus Saligna, and why people keep asking for it
Saligna has become one of the most requested boards in our range. It is a dense, red-toned hardwood with high wear resistance, and it gives a deck a depth of colour that treated pine cannot match. It sits alongside Blackbutt, which carries exceptional fire resistance, and Macrocarpa, a chunkier profile suited to a rustic or coastal look.
