Decking Timber

Timber Decking

Natural beauty. Built for outdoor living.

A beautiful deck should feel like a natural extension of your home.

Hansen Timber decking is crafted from carefully selected timber species and precision profiled at our Clevedon mill, creating solid timber decking that brings warmth, character and lasting performance to outdoor spaces.

Our Eucalyptus Saligna (Blue Gum) is the hero of the range — a dense, hard-wearing hardwood with distinctive red and rose tones that develop a rich, natural character over time. Its strength, durability and striking appearance make Saligna an exceptional choice for premium residential decking and outdoor living spaces.

For projects calling for a different expression, we also offer Macrocarpa and Eucalyptus Pilularis (Blackbutt). Macrocarpa brings naturally durable timber with warm honey-gold tones and a more substantial, rustic character, while Blackbutt offers a highly durable, hard-wearing hardwood with a clean palette of pale brown and cream tones.

From relaxed outdoor living areas to refined architectural decks, Hansen Timber decking combines the natural beauty of real timber with precision milling and the performance demanded by life outdoors.

Three distinctive timbers. One beautifully crafted decking range.

Why hardwood instead of pine

Most decks in New Zealand are built from treated pine, because it is cheap and it is everywhere. It is also a soft timber. Pine dents under furniture, splinters as it weathers, and depends on chemical treatment to survive outdoors at all.

Hardwood works differently. Eucalyptus is naturally dense and naturally durable, so it resists wear, holds a screw, and stands up to the weather without relying on chemical treatment to do the work. It stays flatter and firmer underfoot, and it ages into a deck that still looks like a feature of the house rather than a job on the list.

Grown here. Milled here.

Every board in this range is grown in New Zealand and milled at our own sawmill in Clevedon. It has not been shipped in from a tropical forest on the other side of the world, and its provenance is not something you have to take on trust.

We have been shaping timber since 1874 and we sell direct from the mill. If you want to see where your deck comes from, you are welcome to come and stand on it.

Eucalyptus Saligna, and why people keep asking for it

Saligna has become one of the most requested boards in our range. It is a dense, red-toned hardwood with high wear resistance, and it gives a deck a depth of colour that treated pine cannot match. It sits alongside Blackbutt, which carries exceptional fire resistance, and Macrocarpa, a chunkier profile suited to a rustic or coastal look.

See it before you commit

Timber is worth seeing in your own light, against your own house. Request a sample of any species in the range and we will send one out to you.
